My Rally Obedience Day in Saco, Maine

Me & my mom competed in APDT Rally Obedience again!  I haven’t been in the “ring” since November and if I do say so myself, I didn’t do too shabby!

Here’s me and Mom doing a  Level 1 course working on finishing up my “Excellent” title in that level:

The BEST class for me, though, is Veterans class – where the courses are about half the length and far less sitting as too many sits are just plain ole’ hard to do for me!

I got a score of a 196 out of a possible 210 in the Level 1 course – lost 8 points on one spot cause my MOM didn’t read the sign right and forgot to do part of it!  NOT MY FAULT MOM! 😉

For my two Veterans courses, I earned perfect scores of 210’s!!  I get a modification for the lower jump height and for my sitting crooked at times due to being a Tripawd.  How cool is that, huh?!  A VERY nice venue to play in with a disabled dog – well, Mom tells me I’m disabled but me, I don’t think I am.  Look at me in these video’s!  I think I’m pretty “agile” 🙂

Well, that’s all the excitement from here in a VERY snowy Maine!  Next up is Wag It Games in three weeks!  Can’t wait for that!  That’s the best program for disabled dogs!  I am the “poster child” for the Heart Dog Program!  Stay tuned for more MaggieMoo adventures!

Keep on hoppin’!

Maggie was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma on her left knee. She had amputation done on October 20, 2009. Four days after surgery she had a low grade fever and was off her food for two weeks! Trying times.. I am grateful and so pleased with how she is progressing now.

  1. Yea Maggie moo!!! Dang it mom- read the signs right will you! Mag can’t do all the work! Still love how she can turn to her left.
But Mag- what was with all the sneezing?

  2. Hey Karen!

My sister Gina(the vet tech:) told me the sneezing is cause she’s drooling(inside?) for the food I had in my pocket. Seriously! Other dogs do it occasionally too…although my other dog Haley doesn’t sneeze she just literally drools! 🙂

There was a photographer there and I can’t wait until he posts the photo’s because he got one of the most spectacular photo’s of her on TWO legs strutting her stuff and looking STRONG! I’ll post it when he gets them up on his website 🙂

  5. If I was in the competition would they give me extra points for barking?

Maggie, I sit crooked all the time too but it doesn’t seem to bother me. I wonder if it will when I get to be a mature dawg like you?

  6. Disabled…….I don’t think so! You two have always been such an inspiration to me. I admire the effort and teamwork so much. And I know it wouldn’t be possible without the trust and bond that you two obviously share. I’m sorry for not being around much lately but it has been a bit crazy over the past two months.

You guys keep up the great work. Keep showing the world what a tripawd is capable off…………anything 🙂

If I make it up your way this year I will definitely give you a shout. I hope that is okay. My guess would be sometime around the first of September give or take a few weeks 🙂

  7. @Brett – nice to hear from you!!! Don’t worry, I’ve been MIA on the Tripawds list a lot lately too…life sometimes gets in the way of the cyber time for me! 🙂

Thank you for your compliments on myself and Maggie’s teamwork! That means a lot to me. I am very happy that she is able to play a bit “in the ring” and strut her stuff and show the world, yes indeed, 3 legged dogs “can do!” She tries so hard…she’s a good girlie.

Oh yes, indeed, Brett! DO get a hold of me when you reach Maine! When are you leaving to start? April? Have a GREAT time and stay safe!

@Wyatt – actually they will take points OFF if you bark too much 😉

Thanks everyone! Very, very proud of Maggie – guess what! She also got “high scoring All American” for that day! Something I found out later!

  9. I’ve found your blog thru links at tripawds. Maggie is sooooo sweet! In this post of yours Maggie says ‘many sits are just plain ole hard’… could you explain please? Is it ’cause Maggie just doesn’t want to stay still for a sit or is it related to her amputation? My dog is getting ready for a rear leg amp so am reading all I can find. TIA for any info

  10. Hi there “Mom2Gracie”,
Thank you for the comments about my Maggie 🙂 What I meant about “sits plain ole hard” is that Maggie finds it tiring/taxing to do alot of sits in many repetitions. In Rally obedience, there are many but can’t be no more than 1/3rd of a course and Maggie actually opened up a few of the judge’s eyes as to how many sits they were putting into their course designs..so they are sure not to put more than what is required now. It is related to her amputation..not that she can’t stay still. But with strengthening/core work, Maggie has gained in strength and sitting a lot isn’t as hard on her physically as it used to be but still it is to a degree. Hope this helps and hope your Gracie does well with her surgery. Does she have cancer? Is that why the amputation?
