Maggie practices her singing after a great weekend…

Maggie had a pretty darn good weekend. Because it’s staying lighter out longer now, I was able to give her a short 15 minute walk Thursday night. Then she got two short walks on Friday. On Saturday, she went for a round trip 30 mile ride in the woods to scan out wildlife – and we saw two moose! We never see those – it’s always deer. Mags and Haley had a great time barking and carrying on(and making Papa angry! 😉 I used to not let her carry on like that at the wildlife but hey, rules have changed these days…she can do it all she wants in my book! She enjoys it…she’s inside the Jeep…she’s not hurting anything other than our eardrums !! 😉 She stood up almost the entire 30 miles…she leans up against the seat most times. I let her decide when to lay down…but I probably should of been the ‘brains’ and made her lay down and rest a bit…cause she was tired later that evening from her standing all those miles – so I gave her a low dose of Deramaxx. On Sunday, she got to go for another short 20 minute walk with no ill effects! I’m giving her Animal Naturals K9 Superfuel after her walks now in water. If you give it within 30 minutes after exercise, it helps with fatigue and soreness. Putting it in water helps absorb it better into their system. So I’m hoping this is helping her. She also gets it daily in her meals. Her walks didn’t make her tired at all…just the long car ride did standing “hunting” for them thar moose! I’m pleased with her recoveries this weekend…they seem to be getting better. I have noticed that when she is tired/weak, her fears of my entry come back…she starts bolting thru the entry to the hallway. But after she’s rested, she then acts perfectly normal after that going in and out of our entry at a normal pace. So when she’s a tad tired, she fears that she’s going to loose her balance by my cellarway entrance..so bolts to hurry thru. Took me a bit to connect the dots…wasn’t until an older friend of mine told me that she got affected by her balance and stairs and feared falling. Makes total sense now.

This is Mags practicing her ‘singing’….I have been meaning to get this on video for years…so finally got it! She can howl better than this…but she’s been out of practice! 😉

Maggie was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma on her left knee. She had amputation done on October 20, 2009. Four days after surgery she had a low grade fever and was off her food for two weeks! Trying times.. I am grateful and so pleased with how she is progressing now.

  1. Too cute for words!! Great singing Maggie! When I was playing the video both Mackenzie and Kobe kept looking up and turning their heads wondering where the singing was coming from. It was so cute to watch. Actually I think Maggie could be mistaken for sounding like a cute little kitty too! Sorry Maggie for comparing you to a cat but you’re still a great singer regardless!

  2. Maggie you are a great singer! I was so impressed I almost starting singing along, but I didn’t. I just wanted to her you sing!

Glad to hear you are feeling so good! Lucky, you got to see two moose. My mom saw one once and I would love to see one too!

    XOXO

  3. Dear Mackenzie,
I won’t tell Mags you compared her singing to a cat! 🙂 She’s not too crazy about cats! You should of seen Maggie when I was replaying it…her head was turning practically in circles! Maybe she thought she sounded like a cat too! Ha!

    Dear Dillon,
Do you have moose in Colorado? All those beautiful hiking pictures from the other day on Peyton’s blog – did you see any wildlife?
