What does contrary mean???

Hey all!

I have a question for all my furry friends – tripawd or not.  Have you ever been called “contrary”?  Just WHAT does that mean, anyway?  My Mom said today on our walk, that I can be so contrary sometimes.  She said it when, for the second time, I had sunk on the side of our trail cause the snow is getting very soft now with the warmer temperatures and that time I really got stuck…up to my belly and she had to help me out!  Phew!  Thank DoG she was there to help me but for some reason she called me ‘contrary’?  I DO know that I tend to have a mind of my own at times!!  Maybe that’s what she meant to say??  Cause I wasn’t listening to her when she kept telling me to stay on the trail or I was gonna sink?  Pfffttt….anyways, me and Mom had a GREAT walk….”contrary” or not…cause she did tell me, that I was acting just like the Maggie she knows and loves!  🙂

Me and Mom also remembered that today marks my 5th month ampuversary!  Holy cowdog! 😉  I have been getting quite a bit stronger in the past couple of weeks, cause at least in our yard where it’s plowed, the footing is GREAT for me now and I’ve been hanging outside now soaking in the sun and just getting more exercise on GOOD footing!  What a relief to walk on something besides ice and snow!  Been a long winter and it’s almost over…the snow is melting pretty good now.

Oh, how I wanna go over THERE off the beaten, solid path! But I'll sink!
"good sit" 🙂
Me doing my part cleaning the side of the trails! 🙂
Here's me and my little sister, Haley...I'm prettier, right? 😉

Happy Spring everyone!  I’m hoping it keeps on a meltin’ fast!  Time for some nice green grass, birds to chase in the yard, soaking up the sunshine and going for walks that don’t involve sinking in the snow!!

Maggie was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma on her left knee. She had amputation done on October 20, 2009. Four days after surgery she had a low grade fever and was off her food for two weeks! Trying times.. I am grateful and so pleased with how she is progressing now.

  1. Dear Maggie,
Cousin Dilly here….I’ve been called contrary a lot in my 15 years too…I think it means “independent hard worker with a schedule of their own”…sounds like a compliment to me, you think?
    😉
    Happy Hoppy Spring!!!

  2. Maggie, I know your mother called you contrary, but I think that is because she is so happy and thankful that you are “doing your own thing” that she doesn’t know what else to say…..in order words, ITS A GOOD THING!!! Everyone here is happy that you are “contrary” too!!!! KEEP IT UP!!

  3. Well, I have 8 Siberian huskies that don’t think you are contrary at all.
We think you are just….independent….yes, that’s how we put it 🙂

  4. I think contrary means special 🙂

Gotta love milestones. Catie and Riley send Happy ampuversary wishes, Maggie.

  5. Happy 5 Month Ampuversary Maggie! That’s so pawesome! You and your little sister are both really pretty but I bet you can sing better as a cat than your little sister. Ok, I know I keep bringing up this cat singing but you really are a talented cat singer! Many more ampuversaries to come. You are a rock star!

  6. Happy Ampuversary, Maggie! That’s awesome! We think your mom was definitely complimenting you by calling you contrary. After all, she wouldn’t want a dog that followed every one of her directions, would she? What fun would that be??? 🙂

    Hugs,
    Holly and Holly’s mom

  7. Thanks all!! My Mom has told me that being ‘contrary’ is a GOOD THING! At least, she said, that’s when she knows that I’m being me! 😉 She said yes, Lisa & Cousin Dilly, it’s that independent streak in me!!

Thanks for all the ampuversary well wishes! Soooooo glad to still be here with my Mom, Papa and yup, that little rugrat of a sister I have, Haley! She’s not so bad, most times…

  8. Happy ampuversary Maggie!!!

    In pugspeak contrary = obstinate.

    Hope that snow keeps melting.

  10. Ms. Maggie, being a fellow wise and stunningly beautiful working dog myself, I find your mother’s description of you as “contrary”, well contrary! We know that what really would have been more appropropriate for a fabulous female such as you would be to describe you as “independent, self-motivated, skilled at analyzing multiple options, able to work autonomously, unique, focused. . .” oh my, I could go on and on!!! Anyway, as we working dogs must do, please tolerate and give due consideration to your mother’s wishes for you to follow the herd as apposed to leading the way!!

Kindest regards with great respect for another supremely intellegent canine, Penny (Shelby’s Big Sis)

  11. Well, thank you Penny! As My Mom and I know you are indeed a working dog, being a BC! 🙂 I DO think you’ve got a better description of me vs. Mom calling me contrary! I’ll let her know what you said to correct her definition!

    Maggie

  12. Contrary
